Cox’s Bazar is a central hub for NGOs handling relief and rehabilitation activities for Rohingya refugees. Providing practitioners on the ground with essential humanitarian logistics knowledge and skills is vital for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of relief operations.
HELP Logistics, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), Kerala, India and Atlas Logistique, Bangladesh (a subsidiary of Handicap International: Humanity and Inclusion), provided an intensive 4-day training on Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management for executives from various non-governmental organisations in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh.
The training, which took place between the 12th and 15th of September, was organised in response to the exceptionally positive feedback received from participants and partners on a previous training held in May. This time, a special focus was placed on purchase requests to payment archiving, quality assurance and control of aid materials, total cost of ownership, supplier selection, procurement challenges and fraud, reverse logistics, inventory management, and cargo handling. The training also included a field visit to the World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse - one of the largest warehouses in Cox’s Bazar.
HELP sponsored participants who were carefully selected from diverse national and international NGOs such as Medicines Sans Frontier (MSF), Caritas Bangladesh, Danish Refugee Council, The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)/International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), The United Nationals International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), The World Health Organisation (WHO), Relief International, and World Vision, to take this course free of charge.
HELP Logistics and IIM Kozhikode provide trainings on humanitarian supply chain management on a pro-bono basis in various South Asian countries. The training materials have been developed in collaboration with leading global academic institutions and are updated frequently.
