HELP Logistics Joins the SWEEP Partnership to Advance Sustainable Waste Management in Refugee Settings

Advancing circular economy solutions in humanitarian supply chains to reduce waste and create green jobs in refugee settings

HELP Logistics, a program of the Kühne Foundation, has officially joined the SWEEP (Sustainable Waste Employment and Environmental Progress) Partnership, a global public-private partnership platform that seeks to advance waste management in displacement-affected areas through innovation, local job creation, and environmental sustainability.

As a new member of SWEEP, HELP Logistics brings over a decade of expertise in humanitarian supply chain design and optimization. The collaboration will focus on reverse logistics and circular material flow solutions, starting with low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic sheeting in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Camps in Kenya.

Through this partnership, HELP Logistics will contribute technical expertise and practical tools to:

• Integrate waste recovery and on-site recycling into humanitarian supply chains
• Test reverse logistics models that enable closed-loop systems
• Reduce environmental impacts while creating green jobs in waste-value chains

“At HELP Logistics, we see sustainable supply chains as central to both humanitarian efficiency and environmental responsibility. By incorporating circular economy principles into these systems, we can not only reduce waste but also create livelihood opportunities for communities living in displacement settings,” said Victoria Njunu, East Africa Regional Director, HELP Logistics.

The SWEEP Partnership, anchored as a Multistakeholder Partnership in the Global Compact for Refugees, brings together public, private, and humanitarian actors to scale up circular economy solutions in refugee-hosting regions. While global in ambition, SWEEP is currently catalyzing multiple projects in Kenya and East Africa.

This partnership reaffirms the organizations’ shared commitment to advancing sustainable, scalable waste management models that protect the environment, improve public health, and strengthen the dignity and wellbeing of displaced populations.
